Don Chico's
About This Spot
Don Chico’s feels like an unassuming gem tucked into the everyday rhythm of Oregon City, a place where locals gather with a quiet familiarity that’s instantly welcoming. When you step inside, the pace slows just a bit — the hum of conversations, the steady clatter of plates, and the inviting waft of spices offer a warm embrace rather than a spectacle. It’s the kind of spot where both longtime regulars and first-timers settle in comfortably, drawn by a simple promise of honest, hearty food and a genuine atmosphere.
The space carries a straightforward, no-frills charm, reflecting its role as a dependable neighborhood haunt. The lively salsa bar, tucked near the service counter, invites diners to explore a variety of flavors, adding an interactive layer to the meal as you sample your way through smoky roasted jalapeños, tangy escabeche, and vibrant sauces ranging from mild to boldly fiery. This kind of discovery sets the tone here: unpretentious, rich with textures and tastes that reveal themselves bite by bite.
Breakfast lingers gently into the afternoon with specialties that feel thoughtfully anchored in tradition but made for everyone at the table—whether you’re savoring a breakfast burrito or balancing plates filled with carne asada tacos and shrimp fajitas. Portions are generous enough to share stories over, or simply to carry you through a busy day. The familiarity of classic Mexican flavors, paired with the comfort of all-day breakfast offerings, creates a quietly satisfying experience.
There’s an understated sense of community in the air. The staff handles the midday rush with steady efficiency, their friendly presence often blending into the background like a steady hum of goodwill. It’s the kind of place you come for the food but stay for the rhythm — the ebb and flow of conversations, the ease of being a part of something comfortably local, and the simple joy of finding a meal that feels like a small celebration of everyday moments.

I love this place and come here almost every day for breakfast. I highly recommend eating here and perusing the salsa bar. Don't be shy! The salsa bar has a metal lid, you need to grab it and open it up to get to the salsas. It's located just to the right of the service counter. Try several, they have a great variety of flavors and spiciness levels. The menu is big but I only ever get burritos because they are perfect for my breakfast and easy to keep the leftovers for lunch, but I haven't explored the rest of the menu. They seem to offer authentic Mexican food in addition to some American classic breakfast offerings, including pancakes and French toast.

Fantastic little hole in the wall. Chilaquiles plate was a ton of food for cheap and very good. Top notch salsa bar with roasted jalapeños in crock pot, escabeche, Pico de gallo, a variety of taqueria style salsas and menudo fixings. The creamy green salsa was surprisingly fiery. Definitely going to come back here.

Best breakfast burritos in Oregon City. I get mine with Bacon. Definitely a vibe in which you need to be a regular. Highly recommend you look at other patrons reviews with which the resteraunt is highly rated. Peruse the Salsa bar, look at the menu, or just get a breaky burrito during your first visit.

I ate here 3 to 4 days a week for three months while painting my house. I love this place! The people are friendly, the food is delicious, the portions are large and prices are very reasonable. I get two meals from one burrito. The pastor burrito is my favorite and they serve breakfast all day. You just can’t get eggs and bacon for under ten dollars anywhere else. This is where locals who know go. The place is always full of cops and contractors so you know it’s good. Don’t let the naysayers scare you. Every place has an off day. This place ROCKS IT! Get in here.

Atmosphere is okay just like any other taqueria. The service is okay nothing to write home about but pretty good. The food is pretty good. The only reason I gave it for stars is because I think the breakfast burritos are a little overpriced for what they are. Nothing you can't really make it home. Overall pretty good if you're in a pinch.
